DivX movies

I´m new to making my own (short) movies, now I want to make a little video which is 25 seconds, I just don´t really know what settings I should use for DivX to get a reasonable quality/size ratio...

Can anybody give me some tips (or maybe links or websites with tutorials)?

Also, which programs do you guys use and what compression?

you can use virtualdub 1.4 to compress your movie with 700-900 kbit/s
